LION/LEON
The Learning Inventory of Need (LION) in English and Spanish (LEON), is a comprehensive, adaptive reading assessment for students grades KG – 12 (KG – 6 for Spanish). Student results include an independent and instructional reading level for fiction and nonfiction, as well as foundational focus skills to assist teachers in remediation, enrichment, and guided reading lessons. The complete suite of results provides teacher lesson plans, small group activities, student-based online games, and leveled running records for one-on-one sessions. Beginning Readers
Beginning Readers (LION Literacy Levels 100, 150): If your child is reading at LION's Beginning level, they are able to sound out most unfamiliar words. They are more automatic in their reading and can read multiple sentences across pages. They will know many high-frequency words, use other words in the sentence support reading, and should not be using pictures to support reading. These students read with expression, understand the meaning of punctuation, and are able to correct themselves. Beginning readers can comprehend passages with more complex ideas and less explicit concepts.
